  • SportAbility Boccia Event 2024

We recently held an exciting Boccia event for primary and secondary school students across Stirling, part of our inclusive SportAbility programme. This event welcomed over 70 pupils, all eager to demonstrate the boccia skills they’ve practiced throughout the year. Boccia, a Paralympic sport designed for seated play, provides an inclusive and accessible experience for children and young people with physical, sensory, and learning disabilities, including autism and neurodiverse needs. Players compete by aiming to position their red or blue balls closest to a white "Jack" ball, requiring both strategy and precision. The day was filled with thrilling play, teamwork, and fun, and we’re thrilled to announce that the top four finishers in each category have qualified for the Forth Valley Disability Sport Championships in January 2025! The SportAbility programme, supported by sportscotland, is dedicated to inspiring a love of sport and physical activity among children, young people, and adults with disabilities and additional support needs. • Friday Football Festival with Active Stirling’s Active Schools Team!

Each month, our Active Schools Team brings the excitement of football to secondary schools in Stirling with our Friday Football Festivals! These fun, friendly events give young people the chance to play football, make new friends, and enjoy some active time together in a safe and supportive environment. Designed especially for young students, these sessions are all about creating a space where everyone feels welcome to join in, learn, and grow. Through close partnerships with schools, Inclusion Support Workers like John Ferguson and Paul Docherty at Stirling High, and PC Paul McCafferty, School-Based Officer at Bannockburn and Stirling High, we're bringing these festivals to life with support from across the community. Our goal is to help students build confidence, develop resilience, and strengthen their social skills while boosting their mental health and wellbeing. With encouragement from school staff and pupil support networks, we make sure every student who wants to participate can join in and enjoy the benefits of being active. Thanks to funding from sportscotland and Stirling Council, our Active Schools Team is committed to making sports and physical activities accessible to all Stirling pupils. Together with school staff, we recruit and train volunteers from the community and empower young people to become leaders through sports and other activities. We're here to build connections to local clubs and community events, creating lasting pathways for students to stay active and connected! • Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week - Active Girls Day 2024

News Article: https://www.activestirling.org.uk/news/secondary-girls-get-active As part of Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week, an initiative that inspires and empowers females of all ages to get active, Active Stirling hosted its annual #ActiveGirls Day event. Over 100 secondary school girls from Dunblane, Wallace, Stirling, Bannockburn, St Modan’s, and Balfron High Schools gathered at The PEAK in Stirling Sports Village for a day filled with fun and fitness. Organised by Active Stirling and co-delivered by our Fit for Girls Ambassadors, the event was a huge success, with smiles and laughter throughout. The girls truly did themselves proud! The goal of this initiative is to inspire women and girls to get involved in sports, break down stigmas around teenage girls trying new activities, and empower them to lead as future role models. It’s about leadership, supporting females with opportunities, and celebrating diverse ways to stay active. No matter your age or fitness level, you can make a difference and inspire others to get moving. The day featured a variety of activities, including fitness classes, curling, sports hall games, and workshops delivered by Fit for Girls Ambassadors from Sportscotland. There were also information stalls to offer additional resources and support. How We’re Creating Change at Active Stirling: Through our Community Activation and Active Schools Teams, we are committed to creating more opportunities for women and girls to engage in sports. By partnering with local clubs, schools, and the Stirling community, we aim to offer a wider range of activities to inspire long-term participation. By working together, educating, and hosting events like this, Active Stirling is making a lasting impact on women and girls in sport.
